THE CHILDREN OF LIR AWARD (FLAX TRUST)
For over a year now the Flax Trust has become a major supporter and sponsor of the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra. It is the intention that the Trust will continue to strengthen its relationship and partnership with the Orchestra as we prepare to embark on another tour year.
The Flax Trust has taken the decision to donate its prestigious Children of Lir Award to the CBYO. The beautiful trophy comes with a substantial bursary and will now be awarded to a member of the CBYO who has demonstrated outstanding musicianship, humble leadership and a real intention to continue his/her study in pursuit of a career as a performing musician.
We are indebted to Fr Myles Kavanagh (Chair) and Sr Mary Turley (Flax Trust) who have recognised the Orchestra's role in using music as a vehicle for excellence, not only within this discipline but for all other necessary life skills.
